The incident took place on Friday, June 1 around 5 p.m. when the department received a 911 call reporting an unconscious female in the parking lot of Stewarts North in the Village of Red Hook, the department said.
Two officers arrived on scene within one minute of being dispatched and located the teen in a car who was not breathing in the parking lot, officials said.
The officers removed the female from the vehicle and immediately determined she was suffering from a drug overdose. Officers administered a dose of Narcan which originally had little effect. A second dose was administered at which time the female began breathing and regaining consciousness, they added.
Red Hook EMS and Northern Dutchess paramedics arrived on scene and continued medical treatment.
During a search of the teen's belonging, the officers found an undisclosed amount of heroin.
She was transported to MidHudson Regional hospital for further treatment.
"The Police Department would like to thank the alert citizen who noticed this incident and quickly called 911," the department said on Facebook.
